CONCORDIA ACADEMY TEAM COMPETITIVE SUCCESSES:

  • Overall varsity volleyball record of 417-153
  • Seven state volleyball tournament appearances: two state champions, one third place finish, one fourth place finish, one consolation champion, two tournament participants
  • 16 Years as District 15A/Sub-Section 3 champions
  • Two time Region 4A Coach of the Year in volleyball
  • 13 Tri-Valley Conference Championships: ten volleyball, three basketball
  • 1985 Girls’ Basketball District Champions
  • Inducted into the MN State High School Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1998
  • During Steve’s coaching career, he has seen many of his athletes go on to play college sports at many levels, from Division I to the NAIA. Many of these athletes have achieved high successes from All-Americans to National Champions.

CONCORDIA ACADEMY ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

  • Varsity letter winner: football, basketball and baseball
  • Tri-Valley All-Conference: three basketball and two baseball
  • 969 Total Career Points in basketball; sixth best all time at Concordia Academy
  • Currently in the basketball record book seven times; averaged 19.9 points per game senior year
  • Member of the 1983 Tri-Valley Conference Championship Basketball Team

CONCORDIA ST. PAUL BASKETBALL ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

  • Hold the Men’s Basketball Single Game Scoring Record with 41 points

UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS BASKETBALL ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

  • MIAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Year in 1988, two time MIAC All-Conference, captain of the basketball team in 1988, career scoring average leader and record holder for single game three point shots made at 10.

PROFESSIONAL BASKETBALL ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

  • Played for the Horsens Professional Sports Club in Horsens, Denmark. Named to the League’s All-Pro Team twice and also set a club single game scoring record with 41 points.

1984 State Champion Volleyball Team

The 1984 Volleyball Team made school history by capturing the school’s first state title. The team was made up of 10 players; five seniors and five juniors. Some of the highlights were:

  • Season record of 24-1; Tri-Valley Conference Champions
  • Champions in the Chisago Lakes Invitational
  • During the regular season, won all games in three with many of them not allowing the other team to score one point. There were six games with a score of 15-0, including the Region 4A final game against Cosmos.
  • District 15A Champions by defeating Randolph, St. Anthony and St. Bernard’s
  • Defeated Gaylord and Cosmos in the Region 4A tournament to advance to the state tournament
  • In the state tournament played Tracy Milroy, Belgrade and defeated Greenway in the championship match
  • One of the messages Coach Dickhudt wrote down before the third state game was, “The journey’s end. You did it girls. This is something you’ll never forget. You are all special people, keep up the hard work and maintain your vision.”

This volleyball season will never be forgotten because everyone was filled with dedication, desire and determination.

CONCORDIA ACADEMY ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

  • Three-time All-Conference and All-Region performer in volleyball and basketball
  • Twice All-State in volleyball and basketball, 1985 Metro Basketball Player of the Year
  • Two-time All-Conference and All-Region pick in softball and a member of the 1984 Class A State Championship Volleyball Team

NORTH DAKOTA STATE UNIVERSITY ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

  • Three time first team All-North Central Conference, three time AVCA & Asics/Volleyball Magazine All-American
  • Three-time AVCA all-region selection and an eight time NCC Player of the Week
  • 1988 AVCA and Asics/Volleyball Magazine Division II Player of the Year
  • NDSU’s first recipient of the Honda-Broderick Trophy in 1988-89, signifying Division II Female Athlete of the Year
  • Currently holds nine school records at NDSU, inducted into the NDSU Hall of Fame in 2003

PROFESSIONAL VOLLEYBALL ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

  • Competed in the 1989 Goodwill Games, Member of the USA’s 1990 bronze medal team in the World Championships in Bejing
  • Bronze medal at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona
  • Played professionally for the MN Monarchs and overseas in Italy and Turkey
  • Played in the Bud Light Pro Beach Volleyball League
  • Inducted into the MN State High School Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2005 as a player

  • Currently in the top 10 of 8 major statistical categories, inducted into the MSU Hall of Fame in 2007

CONCORDIA ACADEMY COACHING ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

  • Head volleyball coach 2001-06 with a record of 110-71. Took two teams to the State Volleyball Tournament and took third place in 2001 and 2002

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA FOOTBALL ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

  • Three time letter winner playing D-Line and Tight End

PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

  • 1996: Signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent tight end. Went on to make the active roster with the Washington Redskins as an offensive guard.
  • 1998: Signed with the St. Louis Rams as a free agent offensive tackle. Went on to make the Miami Dolphins practice squad.
  • 1999: Went overseas and played with the Barcelona Dragons, to later be signed by the New England Patriots as a center and offensive tackle.

  • Track and Field accomplishments: nine time Tri-Valley Conference Champion; six time Section 4A Champion; six time True-Team Section Champion; three time participant at MSHSL State Track and Field Championships; All-State recipient; State Champion in the 400-meter dash and third place in the 200-meter dash
  • School record holder in the 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash and high jump
  • Concordia Academy Male Athlete of the Year in 1998
  • Lutheran High School All-American
  • 1000 Point Club for basketball, with 1058 points; sixth player to reach 1000 point club

  • All-Conference Receiver for the 2004-05 season; Team captain in 2005 and member of the 2005 Division I FCS National Runner-Up

  • Played for the Seattle Seahawks in 2006, played for the NFL Europa-Amsterdam Admirals in 2007, played for the Minnesota Vikings from 2007-08, played for the Canadian Football League with the Winnipeg Bluebomers in 2009
